Ron Brackenbuy
Ron Brackenbury was born and raised in Oxford
County, Ontario. His interest in wood began in elementary school, industrial
arts class and continued through High School. While earning his
Metallurgical Engineering Degree at Queen’s University,
Ron didn’t have time available for woodworking. After a
brief career in the auto industry , Ron married, returned to the
family dairy farm in Oxford County and started a family.
While farming, Ron returned to woodworking as
time allowed. He purchased his first woodturning lathe in 1975.
In the late 1980’s, Ron and his wife sold the family farm.
He built a new house and shop and woodturning became his main
passion.
Ron’s turnings are mostly functional, with
a few exotic or artistic pieces to keep it interesting. Inspiration
for artistic shapes and designs comes from many sources; glass
and pottery, shapes and textures in nature, and other wood turners
and their turnings. Raw wood materials are obtained from local
expeditions, from local loggers or from Florida during vacations.
Ron has his work in several galleries in
Southern Ontario and has been involved with Art In The Park in
Stratford for several years. He has earned numerous awards for
his turnings.
