The “Shift” vessels are a result of
an exploration into form development that focussed on the visual
and structural relationships between adjacent components. An
unfamiliar form is revealed by the shifting action of fragments
that previously created a familiar shape.
The resulting forms are meant to reflect the energy and growth
observed in nature. Each vessel consists of a series of segments
that have been steam bent and subsequently machined and shaped
by hand before final assembly. Some of the vessels feature finished
surfaces that are a stark contrast to the clean lines of each
form, yet suggest the ageing process which is essential to the
cycle of life.
