" I STRIVE TO MAKE MY POTTERY MORE THAN JUST HEAVY PITCHERS AND MIXING BOWLS. TO ANIMATE AND ELEVATE CLAY TO AN ART FORM IS MY MAIN GOAL.
I HOPE TO BRING BEAUTY AND ENJOYMENT TO DAILY LIFE."

For over a decade, Shane Norrie has been working with clay. Through experimentation with various methods of pottery making, Shane continually develops his distinct, organic style. His pottery, which has quickly gathered a dedicated base of collectors, patrons, and gallery representation, is carried in top galleries across Canada. His sculptural pieces have gained much appreciation from collectors and gallery owners.
At 29 years old, he has created a successful and promising career and exhibited his work internationally. He was invited to exhibit his work overseas, in an eight-month travelling exhibition, sponsored by the Japanese Embassy in Belgium and the Province of Antwerp with five other Canadian ceramic artists. He was also a participant in an invitational exhibition in Luxembourg, with four other Canadian artists.
In 2004, the Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute Shane Norrie Art Scholarship, was established at his former high school. This scholarship honours a graduating student who has chosen to pursue creative post-secondary studies in a visual art-related program. "Art was extremely important to me throughout high school, and I was honoured with a scholarship when I graduated. I thought it was appropriate to offer someone the same encouragement that I received".

About the Work

Recently Shane has been creating thinly-thrown, textured pieces that are reminiscent of the ocean and its surroundings. Foamy tidepools, seashells and dry river beds are the inspiration for this new body of work. His new matte turquoise and bronze pieces have seen much praise.
He has begun developing a body of sculptural vessels, with heavily textured glazes for a solo exhibition in September of 2008.
His paintings, which echo the feel of his ceramics have seen much success, and are included in collections in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Utah and New York,
They are also included in the RBC Corporate Collection, as well as HSBC Executive Collection, New York, NY
