Gise Trauttmansdorff's "Pillows" are
an intriguing tease. From the outside they resemble a shape inviting
one to rest one's head. The slab envelopes the inner space that
invokes the secure dark feeling of a native dwelling in the American
South West which is only accessible through a top opening.
This shape found inside a house becomes a dwelling in itself viewed
from the outside. Playing the inside against the outside, the
shape of the opening against the form of the vessel
juxtaposing texture and smooth surface black and colour becomes
the essence of the piece.
