Over the past century machines and technology
have rapidly implemented change in our social behaviour. Stopher
Christensen employs thick glass as idiom for his idiosyncratic
metaphors of social evolution. Using glass as the vehicle, Stopher
speaks of the juxtapositions between strength and weakness, clarity
and distortion, refinement and abandonment.
"I base the clean, minimalist aesthetic on the ideals of
modernity, specifically exploring the impetus of technological
change on sociocultural activities. Through a juxtaposed amalgamation
of historical happenings, with current events, I attempt to observe
today's world, in the desire of capturing the vernacular of tomorrow's
epoch."
Stopher Christensen is an Ontario based glass artist. He studied
the art of glass sculpting at Sheridan Collage. It was at Sheridan
that Christensen also studied Feng Shui, which is a direct influence
on his glass sculpture.
His travels to Holland, Germany, Switzerland, England, and New
York have also influenced his work.
Christensen has shown his work in many galleries
and exhibitions in Ontario and Quebec. He has also shown his glass
sculpture in the United States with much success.
Over the years he has received many awards
and scholarships for his glass work, including the Ontario Crafts
Council Scholarship, and Mayor’s Award for Business and
the Arts, Oakville, Ontario.
