Joanne Clarke has exhibited professionally since 1980. She has achieved an outstanding reputation for her colourful landscape, garden and still life compositions painted with intuitive and dramatic brushwork.
Born in Brantford, Ontario, she has resided in Toronto since 1966 the year she received a B.Sc from the University of Toronto. The evolution of her artistic style and creativity has been obtained largely through self-development and constant exploration. The early period included study with prominent Canadian artists at Art Sake (Toronto), Ontario College of Art (Toronto), Schneider School of Fine Art (Ontario) and Seneca College (Ontario).
Professional membership includes the Ontario Society of Artists (O.S.A.), elected 1987. She is a former elected member (1984) of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour (C.S.P.W.C.) and of Visual Arts Ontario where she represented Ontario artists on the Board of Directors from 1981 – 1983. She is the recipient of the 2005 ‘In Celebration Of Women’ award for achievement in Visual Arts.
In her thirty year career to date, she has had 21 major solo exhibitions and participated in many important group exhibitions. In 2010, Arabella, Canadian Art, Architecture and Design Magazine featured Joanne in an Artist To Collect series in the Spring 2010 issue.
