Inspired by the continuous play of light and colour between the sky and the water, my most recent project, the Lake Huron series,  seeks to express my reverence for this magnificent body of water.  The medium I chose is "scrumbling" or free-form crochet which allows for an intuitive interpretation and the addition of  'shore finds' and found objects to complement each piece.

In the past I have worked in a variety of mediums - b&w photography, paint, stained glass, re-used tea bags, encaustic, collage and mixed media. My curiosity and desire to express myself in new ways stimulates me to continue to explore varied media.  The inclusion of layering in much of my work attempts to both reveal and hide but ultimately bring cohesion to disparate parts in a sometimes pleasing, sometimes challenging, sometimes beautiful way.

Sylvia does not confine her art to one subject area or medium, preferring to vary the projects and media, following where her curiosity and creativity lead.. Her art is included in private collections in many countries and she has won several awards.  She has curated art shows for Parks Canada at the Visitor Centre, Tobermory.  Sylvia is a member of the Milkweed  Collective (Toronto), the Bruce Peninsula Society of Artists and Co-op Gallery, and Santa Fe Gallery in Owen Sound.   She is represented by Circle Arts Gallery, Tobermory, Ontario.
