C.V.
To make a painting from
landscape requires a biological faith; desire, intuition, and
attention. I try to approach landscape with a sense of danger;
to risk the slipping from the universal of making a painting,
into nostalgic making of scenery. The results from directly confronting
landscape; the beauty, ugliness, mystery, and to present visual
traces of the energy, spirit, urgency - in other words nature's
process - sometimes justify my attempts. Using no painterly
shortcuts I have been content with the old ways to be new.
